Kelp privacy policy

Kelp is local-first. Your audiobook files, library, playback history, bookmarks, and listening statistics are not uploaded to an OtterSuite server.

Information kept on your device

Kelp stores this information in private app storage. Your original audiobook files remain in the folder you selected.

  • The folder you select and the permission Android grants to that folder
  • Book metadata, cached covers, chapters, collections, favorites, and edits
  • Playback position, speed, bookmarks, listening statistics, goals, and settings
  • A locally cached indication that Kelp Pro is active

Optional network features

When local metadata is incomplete, Kelp may send a cleaned book title (or search terms you enter) to the Libex audiobook metadata service and may download the cover you choose.

Google Play handles Kelp Pro purchases. Kelp receives the purchase state needed to unlock Pro but does not receive your full payment-card details.

If you choose Cast, Kelp discovers compatible devices on your local network and makes the selected audiobook available to the receiver for the duration of that Cast session.

Permissions and your choices

  • Folder access is limited to the location you select with Android’s system picker.
  • Local-network access is used only for Cast discovery and playback.
  • Notifications, foreground playback, and wake lock support reliable background audio.
  • You can avoid metadata lookup and Cast, export or remove Kelp data, clear app storage, or uninstall the app.

Retention and backup

Local data remains until you remove it, clear app storage, or uninstall Kelp. User-created Kelp backups remain wherever you save them. Android may also back up some app data according to your device and Google account settings.

Independent services

These services handle information under their own terms and policies. OtterSuite does not control their retention or security practices.

Sale, security, and changes

OtterSuite does not sell personal information collected through Kelp. Network traffic uses encrypted connections where the feature supports them, but no storage or transmission method is completely secure. This policy may change as the app changes; the effective date will be updated when a revision is published.

For privacy questions, use the developer contact on the app’s Google Play listing or the support channel published by OtterSuite with the app.
