Currents privacy policy

Currents is a personal Reddit client prototype. It connects directly to Reddit and content hosts and does not send your Reddit credentials, feed, or activity to an OtterSuite server.

Information kept on your device

Refresh tokens are encrypted using Android Keystore-backed storage. Disconnecting removes local account credentials and Currents attempts to revoke the grant with Reddit.

  • Your Reddit username, OAuth configuration, and encrypted refresh token
  • A short-lived access token used for the active Reddit session
  • Cached posts and comments, read history, saved drafts, filters, and recent communities
  • Theme, typography, gesture, media, and feed preferences

Reddit account and actions

When you connect an account, Reddit processes authentication and returns the scopes you approve. Feed reads, votes, saves, posts, replies, edits, reports, subscriptions, and account actions are sent directly to Reddit on your behalf.

The default sign-in path uses an Android Auth Tab, where Currents cannot read the Reddit login page. An optional in-app sign-in mode displays Reddit in a WebView and should be used only when needed for a callback that a browser cannot return.

Media and external content

Images, video, galleries, links, and previews may be requested from Reddit, RedGifs, and the independent sites or content-delivery networks linked by posts. Those providers receive standard network information such as your IP address and the resource requested.

NSFW and spoiler gates are applied before remote previews are requested when the related reveal setting is off.

Retention and your choices

  • You can disconnect Reddit, clear read history and filters, remove drafts, clear app data, or uninstall Currents.
  • Reddit retains account content and activity according to its own policies even after local data is cleared.
  • Android may back up non-sensitive app preferences according to device and account settings; credentials remain protected by device-backed encryption.

Independent services

These services handle information under their own terms and policies. OtterSuite does not control their retention or security practices.

Sale, security, and changes

OtterSuite does not sell personal information collected through Currents. Network traffic uses encrypted connections where the feature supports them, but no storage or transmission method is completely secure. This policy may change as the app changes; the effective date will be updated when a revision is published.
